High-Intensity Interval Training Protocol

Online Tabata Timer

Use our free online Tabata timer to keep track of your high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions. This timer is optimized for the traditional Tabata format or any custom work-to-rest ratio you want to set.

What is Tabata?

Developed by Dr. Izumi Tabata in 1996, the Tabata protocol is a form of cardiovascular exercise that boosts both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. It involves performing 20 seconds of ultra-high-intensity effort, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times for a total of 4 minutes.

How to Use the Tabata Clock

Set your desired Work Time (default is 20 seconds), Rest Time (default is 10 seconds), and Rounds (default is 8). Click the start button to begin a 10-second countdown before your first work round kicks off.

Benefits of Tabata Training

Tabata workouts are highly efficient for fat loss, cardiovascular endurance, and muscular stamina. Because the intervals are extremely short, it allows you to maintain near-maximum effort throughout the entire workout.
